Boneless pork rectums

ENGLISH:
A poster on Taiwan's expat forum Forumosa.com has found out, what's inside the famous Chinese dumplings here. He saw this in front of a dumpling restaurant:

DEUTSCH:

There I go posting for years and years...

There I go posting for years and years, mentioning that Taiwan is not Thailand and no sex tourism country and that foreigners are not welcome in the usual brothels here in Taiwan (OK OK there are ads directed to foreigner in the Taipeitimes, yes, yes...), there was finally a light at the end of the tunnel and people start to experience Taiwan as the rich high tech nation it really is, and then... and then...

Girl in a hole

teichert-online.de

Girl in a hole

A capitalistic society, or let’s call it a “market-driven” society, is celebrating suffering. We may feel connected to utilizing suffering of another person for ourselves, as we are being taught to see the suffering of Jesus Christ as “suffering for our sins”. Suffering of another person may be beneficial to us, is a lesson learned from this education.

There are more “little Jesuses” out there, even if my WORD program from Microsoft rejects the plural of “Jesus” while I am typing this. Usually it’s a disillusioned pop star or ex-model who finds life empty and senseless as soon as her body loses her firm elegance and subsequently falls to drug abuse and making a fool of herself on every occasion. The current damsel is this distress changes quarterly. Sooner or later she will be discovered in a hotel room, her jewelry in a drawer and her body full of drugs. Ah yes, note the similarity to a man or woman who has been unemployed for 10 years and finally tries to fill-in the lacking sense of his or her life with the bottle – just another drug.

World press will not follow the average unemployed drunk through all steps of self-dismemberment, but it will certainly follow the suicidal suffering of a celebrity.

But once again please note, both average drunk and celebrity are lacking the same sense in life: to do something useful for society, the ability to reproduce themselves in a meaningful work. Unfortunately there is no right to have such a meaningful part of society in a “market-driven” life, unless the market really needs you.

It was a hole full of cold water
and one of her feet was stuck
in between to iron bars in
that hole
.”

I have never seen the suffering of another person utilized for the market as much as one time in the late 1980s or maybe very early 1990s. I forgot when it was and this being before the Internet age makes it impossible to find anything about it online. It was big in the magazines and news flashes all over the world these days. It was in Mexico, and a little girl, maybe 7 or 8 years of age, had fallen into a hole. It was a hole full of cold water and one of her feet was stuck in between to iron bars in that hole. Consequently she could not come free, her head just above the waterline and nobody could go down to reach her foot and try to cut it free. There was simply not enough space. Unfortunately she was only a local slum inhabitant, so nobody really cared about her, besides her family and neighbours who lacked the power, say “the money”, to do anything for her.

“Big crosses were standing
all over the place”

Nobody cared? Wrong! A lot of people cared. This became the No.1 news story very quickly. Soon the little girl in her hole was surrounded by an enormous amount of technology. Big crosses were standing all over the place around her hole. No, not as a religious sign, they had strong lamps attached to them, illuminating the hole in radiant light, both night and day. Countless wagons and trucks stacked full of equipment were all around her. No, no rescue teams with fancy iron cutters, but instead news reporters with Satellite transmission wagons. Those days there was no mobile phone network in the slums. Satellite telephone was extremely expensive, like a thousand dollars for a few minutes, but it was all utilized for the little girl. Well, not directly for the girl, but at least for bringing her story to the masses. The German TV made a nice shot of the scene; they showed the hole with the girl and then moved the camera backwards in a swift motion, further and further away from ground zero. What you saw where trucks and wagons and lights and communication masts. A whole city had been assembled out of the dust of the slum. For one in its entire existence, a slum somewhere in Mexico had more electronic appliances per square meter than of office in New Your City or Frankfurt. And there must have been food stalls and whores and pimps and whatever else to keep the mobile city running. Everything was there, but not for the girl.

“… to save this girl
with cave divers…”

I think it was the German STERN magazine or maybe another news vulture these days (I do not blame them, I watched news and read magazines as well) which mentioned to save this girl with cave-divers (diving in narrow water tunnels or holes is not easy and requires specially trained divers) and a special underwater-welding machine would have cost 100 000 or 200 000 Dollars these days. Or was it German Marks, I forgot. However, the amount of camera and communication equipment around that hole, salaries for the staff, the expensive satellite phone fees, all put there by all the major networks and news magazines, was summing up to many millions of Dollars running cost for the time span. To summarize it, much more expensive equipment was used to depict and broadcast the suffering of the little girl, not a single damned dime was spent to rescue her.

“…before her face
turns blue…”

How the story ended? Well, how do you think it ended? Did the girl have a lobby to demand her fair share of the profits made with her suffering? Scrape of 100 000 Dollars or whatever and have her rescued in the last minute before her face turns blue so the media gets her share and profit and she is still rescued?

Nope. She did not have any power to enforce her rights. Companies all over the world made profit by watching her die, but nobody did anything to help her. They didn’t miss her last breath above the waterline, though.

Nor did the German magazine who mentioned how cheap it would be to rescue her compared to all the communication cost. Nor did I who just watched the news like everybody else.

Are we more advanced than the old Romans who threw people to the lions to watch them suffering? Answer that for yourself, you may end up with a gradually improvement.

So what’s the morale of the story? Well, should there be any? After all, we life in a market-driven society…

Murder in foreigner scene in Taiwan (Update 2)

Murder in the foreigner scene in Taiwan
ENGLISH:
This article is in German and a bout a recent murder in the foreigner scene in Taiwan. For English sources about this, please refer to HERE (translation of news from Taiwan sources in Chinese) and possibly HERE (discussion on the foreigner website forumosa.com in Taiwan).
In short: a Taiwanese lady had been murdered, dismembered and dumped on the street in a garbage bag. Suspects were, in that order, a Japanese teacher (wrongly accused), an American teacher (seemingly wrongly accused but boyfriend of the real murderer) and the Phillipine-girlfriend of the American teacher (who has confessed).
Unfortunately this murder is for real, unlike my fun crime story "Dead German found in Taipei".

Pallazzo Prozzi, Bangkok

Bangkok Royal Palace Pt. 2

see Part 1

English:
So finally we made it into the Royal palace in Bagkok. The captions are in German, but feel free to enjoy the pics.

Click on the images to enlarge!

Hofdamen ... gehabt haben), doch dann hoert man die keifende Stimme der Reiseleitung "please proceed to the next building, where King Rama the second had his first...".

Doch weit gefehlt!

Shrimp of Death

English:
Many strange creatures roam the streets of Taiwan. Not only English teachers from Canada or compudda experts from Germany, also ...... SHRIMPS! In broad daylight on LAND.
Well I knew Taiwan's air is moist, but I didn't know it is THAT moist...

Read all about the encounter of the strange kind....

English:
This is Away team to Shrimp shuttle, do you read me? Entering enemy territory. Air-breathing implants are working at maximum efficiency!

German:
Tri tra trullala, Aussenteam an Shrimp-Landungsboot: "erkunde feindliches Territorium. Luftantmungsimplantat funktioniert sowiet einwandfrei"

English:
Shuttle, do you read me? Help! I have discovered a strange land inhabitant. My god, what an ugly species this is!

German:
Landungsboot! Kommen! Kommen! Habe seltsames Landlebewesen entdeckt. Mein Gott, ist das hässlich!

English:
Compare the size! (transporter room: beam me out of here immediately!)
German:
Grössenvergleich! (Transporterraum! Beamt mich sofort hier raus!)

English:
Beam me up! Now! Damned, Chief engineer Crabby is deaf and dumb again...
Or is the crabonaut in the picture out for revenge, because the Taiwanese are eating so much Shrimps?

German:

Beamen! Jetzt!

It's a bug, it's a bug, it's a bug !!!!

German below, Deutsch unten!

ENGLISH:
There is the legend, that the name "bug" for a mishap in a computer program would originate not from a programmer's mistake, but really from a hardware problem. I have once seen a photo copy of the original note (if we want to believe this computer scientist's legend) showing a dead cockroach taped on paper and saying this would have been the source of the problem in one of the ancient computers, which had relays instead of micro circuits. Well, once thing is for sure, those days a bug getting in between the large relays could really cause an ugly and smelly short-circuit. If you don't believe it: see as below. Recently I had a customer complaining to my company, a hardware manufacturer, a board would have had an ugly smelly short circuit. It is no fake, I have the real email thread here in my OUTLOOK, but can not publish it as revealing customer data is out of the questions.
Our customer complained to us, their customer would be very, very angry for the faulty board. Well, by that time, nobody had opened the chassis yet.
The merchandise was returned by our customer's customer to our customer and they opened the box. See for yourself...

I call it Fred. The board, not the cockroach. Well, whatever.

User Manual for Taiwanese Women

The same situation pops up repeatedly in the discussion among foreigners on forumosa.com, Taiwan's expat discussion forum. An American or Canadian foreigner, working here as an English teacher, had a Taiwanese girlfriend for many month, then he wants to change to another one and tells her, "we are through" and stuff like that, without a fight, just his right to change his partner, 'cause we are in the 21st century and stuff. Perfectly normal. THEN it starts, the girl transforms herself into a "Psycho Xiaojie from Hell", a "Psycho Fraulein" or whatever. The former gentle woman suddenly is raving mad, threatens with physical violence and follows her ex-boyfriend for month. "She must be insane", "psychological issues" is the conclusion of the short-term foreigners working here as English teachers in their world, which is perfectly shielded from real Taiwan life (now I am sounding a bit nosy, but basically it's true).
Longshan temple in Taipei. It is an alian culture after all...
Usually in such cases, the Canadian or American (could be another Western nationality as well) man does not understand, why his girlfriend cannot accept the fact that she gets dumped. "This is perfectly normal in the 21st century" is what is usually written in the forums, so she must be mentally disturbed to react this way.
Taiwan is full of dragons (here Longshan temple). Before having one as a girlfriend, you should understand the very basics.
What is forgotten is, that Taiwan's culture, originating directly from Chinese culture (to the point of actually being Chinese culture) is totally different when it comes to "mating rituals" than Western culture. A typical middle class guy here will first get his career sorted out. And when he is a little past 30 and has a good job and some money on his bank account, he will get his first serious girlfriend and by that time they will talk about sex. Many couples will wait with sex after marriage, others will do it within the preparation time, which you may call "engagement". However, a Taiwanese engagement is actually the marriage party of the bride's family (where only the groom and wife family take part) and the real marriage party (with bride and groom's family) follows straight afterwards. Chinese and Taiwanese people are very serious about relationships, there is some kind of "family discipline" originating from the Confucian idea to find and fulfill your place in society. A family is a functioning and well organized part of the whole society, which parents on top and then the children with sons first and then daughters. Even the children will be sorted according to their birth order. The first son of the family is the most important child and second and third son have to listen to him! Finding a steady partner in a relationship means finding a husband or wife in Taiwan and that is not for fun in the first place, but part of organizing your life.
Not knowing things can get you stir-fried in the oven... (another temple)
Going out with a foreigner is socially acceptable for a girl in Taiwan, but viewed with some kind of concern and skepticism. Having a Taiwanese boyfriend is more easy for a Taiwan lady, because if they break up, neighbours, colleagues and family will NOT assume they already had sex. However, having a longnose boyfriend means, they surely HAD sex in people's opinion. Honestly, I do not believe in a Western guy dating a Taiwan lady for a few month without it, as Western culture sees intercourse as a part of longer relationship between girl and boyfriend nowadays - Taiwan culture does not. But when a man marries here in Taiwan, he wants a virgin or at least a woman which can pass in public opinion as a likely virgin. It is about saving face. The actual fact of being a virgin or not is not so important as the public opinion about the girl. Now this is unfair for women and women's lib still has much to accomplish in Taiwan, but those are the facts of life here. Conclusion is, a Taiwan girl who had a Western boyfriend and has broken up with him will be regarded as a non-virgin and has difficulties of finding a Taiwan boyfriend or groom. She has to look for divorced man, which is not easy in a society where divorce is regarded as a dramatic personal failure which can even get you fired in your company. A lady of 28 or 32 will have to look in a different age category as well to find a divorced man. If a foreigner gets a girlfriend here, it is very likely she is a virgin. Having intercourse with the girl and then dumping her is a personal catastrophe for the lady. She is out of the marriage market, a no-go zone for the Taiwanese guys! Not because she had a foreigner, but rather because she is an OBVIOUS non-virgin now. Remember, in a Confucian society, it is about what people THINK, not what actually IS. Having a non-virgin girlfriend could lead to the same drama, if the girl thinks after a few month of relationship, she finally found her Mr. Right and marriage will be finally on the horizon. And then ZAP. "Darling, I am not into a longterm relationship now. BYE". And then... the dragon will show her claws, because those cute and small Taiwan ladies are courageous and brave women. Which makes them great partners in life (but not the most easy ones if you are a Western guy). Dumping them after having gotten serious with them is not a good idea.

Meat Meat Meat ...... and it's 280 degrees Celcius hot!

A little German below...

ENGLISH: As Luo2 You1 has opened culinary fire on the German home front with this great article (LINK), we here in TaiWAN alias Formosa alias Republic of China (strongly not being ThaiLAND) have decided to return fire at 6.00pm in the evening.

Wait... what did I just write? Never mind. Ludigel alias BobHonest went with wife to a delicious hot stove restaurant, somewhere in Taipei. Actually it was my company inviting us.

I don't really know where the restaurant was, but this may help you finding it:

around the restaurant

The had a really hot stove, actually hot stones, on the table and the stewardess of the culinary joyride described it to us and asked us to be careful. Her assistant even showed the 280 degrees Celsius to us on a thermometer.

don't touch the hot stones!

Sauce is waiting..

What did Peggy Bundy say? We don't eat vegetables...

sizzling on the fire...

At this point, a colleague noticed, I made strange beeping noises while eating. Well, I call it a tongue-orgasm. The locals said "hao3 chi4" always (speak: how zzzzssss), which sounds to German ears a bit like a request for violence (hau zu!). Not much better than my beeping if you ask me...
We also had delicious rice with stirred-in Korean Kim-Chi, by the way (and green salad to cover the meat)

That's beautiful!

Eh... wait, let me take a photo first!

Oh damn it!

We also had a delicious orange tea, with jellied down the throat nicely and oily (what kind of sentence is that now...?)

Trojan horse by the federal governement

The Bundestrojaner in Germany is said to be as good as ready (LINK in German). In the article, Andreas Pitzmann, a Computer Scientist (I had the pleasure to hear my first lecture in Computer Security from him at the University of Hildesheim) specialized in IT-Security, is taking the Trojan horse, issued by the German federal governement apart.
What is the Federal Trojan horse, called "Bundestrojaner" anyway.
Well, in Germany we have a "Federal President", a "Federal Chancellor (Prime Minister)", a Federal Coach of the German national soccer team and now we even have a Federal Spyware on people's computers.
It's only meant for computers of bad people, that is clear, Bin Landen's laptop which is uses to access ... certain websites. I am not saying which, the joke I had in mind could put me on the death list of several radical Islam organizations I guess.
It should be installed remotely or by secret agents sneaking into the office or home of the suspect and then spy out the whole computer, infect his whole LAN probably and can even spy out his mobile phone and PDA. Great news, we are safe, the bad guys get what they deserve.

However, being Mr. Pfitzmann's eager listening student (grin), a few things seemed fishy from the very beginning.

OK, they only want to use this spyware "Bundestrojaner" very few times and that is why they do not expect anti virus software to be able to detect it. However, this is a quite normal situation of a malware infecting a few computers. Sooner or later (well...sooner) a suspect will send the malware to a security expert and then... anti virus scanners will soon detect it worldwide.
OK OK, they want to hide it well and change it often, so it can not be detected. But isn't that what all hackers are saying? We have intelligent anti virus scanners not only searching for a certain signature of the virus or Trojan horse, but also searching for behaviour patterns. We have ROOTKIT DETECTION programs, which are searching the system for well-hidden virus and trojan horses.
And ... don't IT-security experts and hackers even work for ... the bad guys. I guess a damned drug cartel or whatever has a few dimes to pay a few hackers.
So come on, it's all a waste of tax payers money.
Which makes it a perfectly normal political action.
Sigh.

my home Robots: online again

German below, Deutsch unten!

A short summary about my home cleaning robots ROOMBA and SCOOBA from the US company iRobot: Both are well again. They had been cleaning the tiles of my home (we don't have carpets for climate reasons here in Taiwan) since April.

Ah yes, iRobot's website gives you the choice between "tactical robots" and "cleaning robots", mind you choose the cleaning robots for your home or you'll scare the neighbours :-)

The image above shows iRobot Roomba Discovery, a vacuum robot, it had worked well until August and then dropped dead for a charging board issue. Repair cost in Taiwan was 2500 Taiwan Dollars, that makes 62.50 Euro. It is now working well again and the iRobot service in Taiwan was very fast, only 2 days over weekend! We turned it on yesterday morning and when we came back, two rooms were clean and Roomba had put himself on the charger again. I hope it doesn't need this repair all few month, that would be expensive. There is already a new model out:

... and as development is fast in the robotics sector, there is a great chance the new model will be improved a great deal.

SCOOBA is the washer twin of Roomba, it is moving slower and mine does not have this "go back to base" feature...

... but it gives a more "worthy" impression than the old grey Roomba with its thick plastic and brushed metal rear. Besides a battery capacity problem (could be solved by charging both batteries 7 hours each without interruption) and a slight insecurity in moving when going through water (the wheels can be replaced if this gets ever real bad, presently it does not affect its ability to clean) it is still working without a problem.

I love my robots and will stay hooked on them. But picture me waiting for the ones that look like...

... ups ..... never mind.

Beware of Taiwan women

German below, Deutsch unten!

English:
The picture above shows my wife holding our dog "Popeye", who is a Japanese Shiba Ainu. But wife is Taiwanese and I am German, makes us a Taiwan-German-Japanese-American family if you include the Husky Atilla, which we have as well. Or is that a Sibarian Husky? Who knows.

But beware, them Taiwan ladies are cute, but suddenly can transform into their more natural shape....

Taiwan dragon somewhere around Taoyuan. I walked passed silently, not my business if someone made his wife or girlfriend angry.

So, do not anger a Taiwanese woman. Or if you do, make sure to wear fireproof clothing and ....RUN!

They did it again...

http://www.japantoday.com/jp/news/415611

China Airlines, I stay with you. No hellfire can separate us. May the gates of hell open, I stay your passenger. My car in Taiwan has no brakes, my wife watches TV while driving. And the Taiwanese president has announced he will travel with China Airlines, the airline of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
And come on, everybody is whining like a baby about this. No fatalities, only a bit of fun. They just don't understand.... Taiwan culture. And it's ghost month anyway.

China-Arlines (of Taiwan), ich bleibe Dir treu.
Da passiert so was.
