And the winner is...

GERMAN below !!! Deutsch unten !!!

I am always a little surprised that a rich country like Taiwan, connected to the West and having a parliamentary democracy like Taiwan (official name: Republic of China) will be simply forgotten in international politics. Germans think of Taiwan as a cheap Third World country, in which simple labour will be carried out by starving people living in bamboo huts and getting a rice bowl as their payment. This is a completely wrong picture of Taiwan, which is the world's computer construction office.
On the other hand, the US organization Freedomhouse (www.freedomhouse.org) has ranked Taiwan as No. 1 regarding freedom and civil liberties in Asia. One was the best score, 7 or a little worse the least score.
The Taiwan-China discussion in Taiwan and elsewhere..... is getting interesting, if one compares freedom in both countries.

IMHO all countries have their little flaws regarding freedom. Nevertheless this seems like a fair judgement to me, as Taiwan is a free society like big Western nations:
  • Taiwan : 1, 1
  • Japan : 1, 2
  • South Korea : 1, 2
  • Mongolia : 2, 2
  • India : 2, 3
  • Thailand : 3, 3
  • Philippines : 3, 3
  • Malaysia : 4, 4
  • Singapore : 5, 4
  • Brunei : 6, 5
  • Cambodia : 6 ,5
  • Nepal : 6, 5 (down)
  • Vietnam : 7, 5
  • China : 7, 6 (down)
  • Laos : 7, 6
  • Burma : 7, 7
  • North Korea : 7, 7

It is interesting to compare the People's Republic of China, simply called "China" above, with Taiwan. And yet it is official international politics to call Taiwan a "stray" province of China. Well, one wants to be astray from such a system without liberty...

DEUTSCH:

  • Taiwan : 1, 1
  • Japan : 1, 2
  • South Korea : 1, 2
  • Mongolia : 2, 2
  • India : 2, 3
  • Thailand : 3, 3
  • Philippines : 3, 3
  • Malaysia : 4, 4
  • Singapore : 5, 4
  • Brunei : 6, 5
  • Cambodia : 6 ,5
  • Nepal : 6, 5 (down)
  • Vietnam : 7, 5
  • China : 7, 6 (down)
  • Laos : 7, 6
  • Burma : 7, 7
  • North Korea : 7, 7
