I hope the title of this posting satisfies our new president Ma3 (no, there is no Ma1 and Ma2, the 3 indicates you have to pronounce it Ma-a or so), who calls Taiwan a "region of China [damned, I mistyped into Region of Taiwan here]". To use international standards, the headline should be "Back in Chinese Taipei", even if the whole island of Taiwan is much more than its capital Taipei.
Be it as it is, I am back, now we have passed Chinese New Year, entered the year of some poor creature (year of the rat? Betlenut-sticky pigeon?) and also have entered the Taiwanese (sorry using the T-word Mr. Chinese Taipei President) year 98. No, not 1998 but 98, as in "98 years since the founding of the Republic of China, which was established in 1911 on the Chinese Mainland and later moved to Taiwan in 1949, a rare case of government and part of its population moving to another location.
Taiwan's almighty Gods (image: Gods No. 120-385) have blessed my C&A "pilot" shirt!
So 98+11 makes about 2009, give or take 1900. My shirt yesterday had a spell on it from mother in law from the temple, thank goodness we have a good relationship (gulp), I drink Japanese whiskey at night to sleep through the Chinese New Year explosions, all is well.

Zurück in Taiwan erschaudert es mich, denn wie wohl war mir doch in meiner Heimat auf dem Kurzurlaub. Nach 5 Jahren ist mir Taiwan wie ein spannender Spielfilm, der immer und immer wieder von vorne anfängt. Wie so ein Metronom, das man für eine Uhr hält und das sich einfach nicht bewegt. Tick, tack, tick, tack und immer so weiter. Sagt jedenfalls meine Frau. Jetzt ist das Jahr 98 in Taiwan, gerechnet ab dem Urknall 1911 als sich die Republik China auf dem chin. Festland gegründet hat, 1911 + 98 ergibt dann unsere westliche Jahreszahl. Versuchen Sie mal, solche Quittungen aus dem Jahre "98" beim deutschen Finanzamt einzureichen...
